Resource management within our own operations is a direct and powerful means of reducing our environmental impact. Improving our operational efficiency enables us to preserve resources, reduce carbon emissions and mitigate pollution in our immediate environment.
Our initiatives to enhance water efficiency, minimise waste and phase out the use of solvent-based paints in our own operations underline our commitment to responsible resource management. This empowers us to regulate how we use resources and manage waste, to help protect the environments in which we live and work.
Our key strategic targets
- Reduce water consumption by 15% (compared to 2019)
- Achieve zero waste to landfill, primarily achieved through an increase in reuse and recycling
- Reduce waste generated by our sites by 10% (compared to 2019)
- Eliminate solvent-based paint (unless mandated by customer requirements and with Executive Committee approval)
- All manufacturing sites certified to ISO 14001 standard or equivalent
How we’re reducing water usage at our sites
We’re committed to accurate water monitoring so that we can conserve this valuable resource. To support this, we are installing smart water meters at all our manufacturing facilities. At our Electric Thermal Solutions company, Chromalox in Ogden, USA, we wanted to reform the way we carry out hydro-testing, which is a water-intensive procedure. Designing a more efficient process contributed to a 7% reduction in water use here compared to 2021. We are implementing this successful approach at other facilities and continue to raise awareness, through education, of initiatives to support water conservation in industrial processes.
